An argument’s argument

Moderator:

Shall we begin?

Grey:

Well, hold on a minute. I want to start by saying someth…

Purple:

Of course you do.

Grey:

Really? Already we’re doing this?

Purple:

No go ahead, do your little speech.

Grey:

You know what? Forget it. Let’s just begin.

Purple:

Great.

Moderator:

Great.

So, we’re here to talk about, well, talking. Purple, you’re up first. What are your thoughts on this?

Grey:

Why does purple go first?

Purple:

Talking? What? What is there even to talk about? Especially with a Grey.

Moderator:

Well, um, talking. Like I said.

Purple:

We’re talking right now.

Moderator:

Yes.

Purple:

So?

Moderator:

Right. That’s what I’m asking you.

Purple:

I don’t seem to care for it.

Moderator:

I think I’m starting to see that. Let’s put a pin there for now.

Grey, your thoughts?

Grey:

What, talking to this idiot? Why would I bother? Purples don’t even know how to talk anymore, never mind what about. And I don’t like talkin’ much anyway. Just about every time I open my mouth I wish it’d shut right back up.

So why bother?

Moderator:

Well, may I remind you. You both agreed to come here. And talk.

And now we’re here. One of you doesn’t want to talk, the other doesn’t seem to remember how to.

So indeed, why bother?

Purple:

Wait.

Moderator:

Yes, Purple? Did you have something to add on this?

Purple:

What were we talking about?

Moderator:

Oh, my.

Grey:

Do you see what I mean with this dumbass?

Purple:

The name-calling is unnecessary.

Grey:

Well, you’re an idiot.

Purple:

And you’re so smart? What do you know about being a Purple?

Grey:

I don’t want to know. Plus it’s not like you know a DAMN thing about being a Grey.

Purple:

Aha! And I’m the idiot. At least I’d be willing to learn.

Grey:

Bullshit.

Purple:

Try me.

Grey:

What do you want to know?

Purple:

What it feels like.

Grey:

You Purples and your feelings.

Purple:

Well?

Grey:

Since when do you care about a Grey’s feelings?

Purple:

Since just now. To prove a point and win an argument. So? Spill it.

Grey:

I feel it all, ok?

I feel so happy sometimes it makes me want to die.

Other times I’m so angry. SO angry, that I belly laugh until it hurts. And pain.

That pain. I’d feel it all the time along with everything else if I didn’t rather feel nothing.

Purple:

I… I didn’t know.

Grey:

That’s right, you didn’t. Don’t. Never will.

Purple:

To be fair, neither do you.

Moderator:

Well, hold on a minute now.

Grey, Purple let you share. And you did, bravo.

But it’s only fair to let Purple share, don’t you think?

Even if you don’t care about what a Purple has to say. You’re already here, right?

Grey:

Fine. What does it feel like to be a Purple?

Purple:

Huh.

Moderator:

Purple, do you need a reminder as to what we’re talking about? Did we lose you again?

Purple:

No. It’s just… no one’s ever asked me before. Really asked me.

Grey:

I’m not really asking.

Purple:

Well, since you sort of asked, I’ll tell you.

It feels like panic. Chaos. War all the time.

And fear. Fear revealing itself in the cracks.

Fear of the truth. No. Fear of knowing that I know the truth.

And the truth is…

I love being afraid. It gives me the excuse I need to hide. And shake. And panic.

Grey:

I…

Purple:

You didn’t know?

Grey:

No. I did know.

Turns out we both did.

Moderator:

…

Purple:

Huh.

Grey:

Huh.

Moderator:

Wait, what are we talking about?
